About The Role
The Associate Fire Engineer will be responsible for assisting in the design,
analysis, and implementation of fire safety systems and strategies for a range
of building projects. The role involves providing expertise to ensure
compliance with fire safety regulations and delivering high-quality engineering
solutions to minimise fire risk and enhance safety in buildings.
Fire Safety Design & Analysis:
- Carry out fire safety risk assessment and fire engineering
analysis for buildings and infrastructure projects.
- Contribute to the creation of fire strategies, including
evacuation plans and fire prevention measures.
- Support in the design and specification of fire safety
systems (e.g., fire alarms, sprinklers, emergency lighting).
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure all fire safety solutions meet UK building
regulations, fire safety codes, and relevant industry standards.
- Prepare reports, documentation, and presentations for stakeholders
and regulatory authorities.
- Advise clients on fire safety matters, providing expert
guidance in compliance with legislative requirements.
Collaboration and Coordination:
- Work closely with architects, building designers, and other engineering
teams to ensure fire safety principles are integrated into all stages of the
design, construction and management process.
- Attend project meetings and collaborate with
multidisciplinary teams to address fire engineering concerns.
Site Inspections and Surveys:
- Participate in site inspections, identifying potential fire
hazards, and providing solutions for mitigation.
- Assist with the commissioning and testing of fire protection
systems.
Client Liaison:
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, providing
technical advice and ensuring high levels of service.
- Respond to client queries and offer solutions to fire safety
issues.
Technical Development and Mentoring:
- Contribute to the development of junior fire engineers or
technical staff.
- Stay up-to-date with industry developments and advancements
in fire engineering science, technologies and techniques.
Project Management Support:
- Support in the management of fire safety projects, ensuring
timely delivery and within budget.
- Monitor project progress and report on key milestones.
Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
- A masters degree in Fire Engineering or a closely related
discipline is desirable.
- Chartered Engineer status (or currently working towards it)
with a relevant body (e.g., the Institution of Fire Engineers - IFE) is
desirable.
- Strong understanding of fire safety systems (e.g., fire
detection, suppression, and ventilation systems).
- Proficiency in fire engineering software tools (e.g., FDS,
Pyrosim, or similar).
- Good knowledge of risk assessment methodologies and fire
engineering principles.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in fire engineering or
fire safety consultancy.
- Experience in the design and implementation of fire safety
systems.
- Familiarity with UK fire safety legislation and standards,
including the Building Safety Act 2022, The Fire Safety Act 2021, and British
Standards and Guidance (e.g., BS 7974, ADB2, BS 9991, BS 9999, BS 5839, PAS
9980 etc).

Work location
The role will involve office-based work, as well as site
visits to construction projects or existing buildings. Occasional travel may be required for site inspections and
client meetings.
